What is the difference between Traditional Acupuncture and Medical Acupuncture?

Medical Acupuncture is practised by qualified health professionals who are already trained in Western Medicine. Separate professional organisations exist for Traditional Acupuncturists and Medical Acupuncturists.

While both acupuncture approaches are valid, doctors apply both medical and acupuncture knowledge to investigate and treat the root causes of pain. For instance, pain can be caused by a growth impinging on nerves. This has to be investigated first, before applying acupuncture for pain relief.

Managing pain

In some cases, Dr Teng has found some patients who prefer acupuncture to medication as an alternative to manage their pain or sports injury. If you have a particular preference, please bring this up with your doctor.
